Harvey at Oak Grove Theater
Harvey, by Mary Chase, won a Pulitzer Prize in 1945 and has remained one of the most popular theater pieces of the last 75 years. Elwood Dowd has an invisible rabbit for a friend. This “friend” is a great embarrassment to his sister, Veta and his husband-seeking niece, Myrtle. The rabbit, Harvey, is based on old Celtic legends of “pooka”. The play is charming, magical, and hilarious while exploring more serious questions of what is insanity and who decides. Set in the 1940’s, its story is timeless and offers us a glimpse at how far we’ve come… perhaps.
