Blue Ridge Children’s Museum Lantern Making and Walk

3:30-5:00 PM: Lantern Making Families will make glowing fall lanterns for the Lantern Walk. The workshop includes materials and guided step-by-step instructions. 5:00-6:30 PM: Lantern Walk on the Greenway Bring your own lanterns or flashlights and celebrate the beautiful fall season by lighting up the night. Enjoy a safe walk along the Greenway with music, community, and hot cider and donuts. Families are welcome to join us for fun activities at the playground prior to 5:00. Additional fee for Lantern Making.

Area members of the VFW, American Legion, other Veterans, Honor Guard and community organizations presenting floats, cars, motorcycles, military vehicles, marching bands, and scouts will march through Downtown Staunton. Please come out and line the streets to honor our Veterans! The parade route starts at the corner of North Market Street and East Beverley then proceeds west on Beverley to the disband point on North Lewis Street.

First Annual Pumpkin Float

Bring the entire family to our first annual Fall Pumpkin Float at Lake Tams featuring floating pumpkins, costume contest, luminaries and fun family activities. Refreshments, music and child-focused activities will make this a frightfully-fun way to celebrate Halloween! Bring your carved pumpkin to the drop-off tent alongside the lake. We will provide the rafts as well as the light. Your pumpkin must be 8lbs or less to float. You may carve your pumpkin with a face, polka dots, your initials, or any other design – just make sure it’s family friendly. To reserve a raft, you must register online or in-person. The fee is $2 per raft, families can reserve as many as they would like. Pumpkins will not be returned to families after the event, they will be composted.

Whimsically Witchy Halloween Fundraiser for Elementary Art and Music

If you’re driving near McSwain Elementary School (1101 North Coalter St in Staunton), be sure to stop by the Whimsically Witchy Halloween display, located across from the school. This Halloween display was hand-designed by a Staunton mom, who is a classical singer and passionate advocate of local arts education. The extravagant, family-friendly, Whimsically Witchy display includes: seven-foot trees with light-up faces, smoking cauldrons, and life-size witches in period dress. Whimsically Witchy is a fundraiser to benefit the art and music programs at McSwain Elementary. The display is free, but visitors are asked to donate to the art and music programs through the McSwain Elementary PTA payment portal via QR code at the display or at www.whimsicallywitchy.org. The display will be up through October 31st.
