Praise in the Park

Beginning Tuesday, June 4th at 7PM is the 21st year of Praise in the Park at the Gypsy Hill Park Bandstand held every Tuesday during the summer and hosted by Linden Heights Baptist Church. This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Concessions are also available for purchase. For more information you can call 540.886.1138. Saturday, June 1st from 11AM – 4PM is the first Staunton Wellness Market hosted by Healing with Cat and is located in the SolArt Center’s underground space at 6 Byers Street in the Staunton Wharf. This market was curated to showcase local holistic entrepreneurs and their businesses. From massage therapists, to makers and crafters, there is so much for attendees to check out. The market will also have massages available from Mountain Massages, plus a Crystal Sound Bowl Meditation from 2:30-3:15 in the back room! Saturday, June 1st from 2:30-4:30 pm the Art Hive Creative Reuse and Art Center Juliette Swenson’s Opening Reception. Attendees are invited to celebrate the whimsical watercolors of Juliette Swenson and will be able to view her work all month long at the Art Hive’s gallery. ShenanArts Presents Proof

In “Proof,” Catherine is a troubled young woman who cares for her sick father, Robert. He is a genius mathematician but his mind slips away. Catherine has the same talent for academia as her father and she fears that she may also have inherited his mental illness. Catherine’s older sister, Claire, returns home to help get things in order. Hal, one of Robert’s former students, wants to search through Robert’s old math notebooks because he believes they might contain something extraordinary. What Hal eventually discovers brings to light a buried family secret. “Proof” is a story about family, love, legacy, and truth. “Proof” runs at ShenanArts June 13th-14th at 7PM, June 15th at 3PM & 7PM, and June 16th at 3PM. Tickets are $19 for adults, $17 for students and seniors and can be purchased online at shenanarts.org or at the theatre box office. “Proof” contains strong language and adult themes.

Every Saturday in May until October The Historic Staunton Foundation is hosting free guided walking tours of historic Staunton. Tours will be rain or shine and prospective tourists will meet at 10AM in the lobby of the R.R. Smith Center for History & Art . Participants will stroll through four of Staunton’s seven historic districts as the volunteer guide discusses Staunton’s historic architecture and the city’s historical development from Beverley’s Mill Place to a booming 19th & 20th century commercial center. for more information you can visit historicstaunton.org

3rd Annual Art on the Town arts festival

Saturday, May 25th and Sunday May 26th the Staunton Augusta Art Center is also hosting the 3rd Annual Art on the Town arts festival in downtown Staunton at the Sunspots Pavilion in the Wharf Historic District. Attendees can discover artwork by local artists and artisans. Vendors have all been juried in and attendees will find a variety of high quality paintings, prints, pottery, photography, jewelry, cards, crafts and more! Saturday’s festivities will also coincide with the Staunton Farmers’ Market, located in the adjacent Wharf parking lot, as well as Ciders From Mars weekend festivities. Saturday, May 11th from 10am-1pm is Kids Matter Day Presented by Augusta Health and Elliott’s Knob Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 680 at the Gypsy Hill Park Gym. Children and parents from Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County have the opportunity to visit safety and resource stations provided by local community organizations to receive dental imprints, first aid information and much more.
